After six long hours battling warm temperatures into the 80s and some tough competition in the Women's Cup class, Maria... sits solidly in the #3 spot with a comfortable 1min 6sec margin over 3rd place. Maria fought hard to stay within striking distance of Jonsson of Sweden in the #2 spot, just 35 seconds ahead. Â Based soley on score analysis, it appears that the top 3 ladies in the competition have settled in to a pretty stable pecking order with Puy of France 1st after day 1 by 2min 9sec, Jonsson of Sweden 2nd by 35sec, and Maria comfortably in 3rd by 1min 6seconds. In each of 7 special tests on the day, Puy pulled ahead by several seconds over Jonsson in 2nd, who pulled ahead of Maria by just a couple of seconds after each test. I can almost guarantee things will change. The important thing to remember in Six Days is that this competition is SIX DAYS! It is impossible to predict what could happen in that time. Just one mistake or mechanical problem could put a rider down by several minutes. Speed isn't everything. Speed AND Consistency is everything. If there's one thing I do know about Maria, it is that she is smooth, fast, and consistent. She's easy on equipment too! All things considered, Maria still has an excellent chance to pull off an overall win! Â Click here for complete LIVE scores! Click here for a full forecast of ISDE weather!
