I know the holidays are busy for everyone but that is my excuse for being a little late telling you about Maria and our trip to the 2009 Endurocross final in Las Vegas this past November 21st. We had a great time this year, as we always do! Maria's mother Cherryl and I drove down with the travel trailer on Tuesday and Wednesday. Maria flew down on Thursday evening with her boyfriend and her father and his friend. Â Friday was spent taking care of sign-ups and meeting with friends and getting the pits all sorted out. Friday evening was topped off with the awesome Vegas show The Blueman Group. I missed the show to save some bucks and Susan Soule' (factory KTM rider Justin Soule's mother) and I rode scooters to the airport to pick up Justin's dad Harvey. I have to say, that was definitely a kick! You should've seen the looks we got riding scooters to through the pick-up line at the Vegas International Airport. Â Back to Endurocross! Practice starts at 9am. As soon as practice is over, Qualifying starts. There are basically three rounds of qualifying where they keep whiddling down the field to make the best field of riders for the night show. This years course didn't look all that spectacular compared to any other year but riding it proved the track was very difficult. Maria had great starts every time out and in one round, I think, she actually got the holeshot! One particular rock section saw lots of action and Maria kept attacking it the best she could and made it through every time but the section took its toll. Well, she made it through the day healthy and unhurt but unfortunately she didn't make the night show. Dang! It did make for a more relaxing night on fun watching the top riders in the country go at it in the finals. If you missed it, the final battle between Taddy Blazuziakl and Ricky Deitrick had a bit of controversy when Taddy got T-bone by Deitrick. From our perspective, Taddy squared a corner right in front of the charging Deitrick and there was nowhere for Deitrick to go. Unfortunatley for Taddy, that crash probably cost him the win and $50,000. That's racing! Â Sunday was pretty fun as well, we hit the go-cart track for some 4 wheeled racing (Ted got faststest lap, Maria 2nd fastest, and I got 3rd fastest of 5 racers) and then we hit the New York New York roller coaster for another thrill. After all the fun we were off to the airport to drop Maria and the gang off. That left just Cherryl and I headed for the long drive home. All-in-all a great weekend of fun and racing! Â HERES'S THE BEST SHOTS OF MARIA IN THE VEGAS ENDURCROSS!
